For CrossFit athletes, the summer CrossFit Games are the equivalent of the Olympics. The best of the best come together to vie for the title of “Fittest Person on Earth.”
But the path to the CrossFit games isn’t easy. Athletes must first prove themselves through two qualifying rounds that push the limits of strength and endurance. The first of the 2017 qualifying rounds, the CrossFit Open, begins today.
Over the next five weeks, hundreds of thousands of athletes will compete in five workouts over five weeks, hoping to qualify for Regionals. And among them will be three Pike13 employees.
Jake Buchholz, Pike13 Sales Rep, is competing in his third Open this year. In 2015 he placed 140th in the state of Washington, and he has his sights set even higher this year. Jake is affiliated with West Seattle’s CrossFit Loft.
Dawn Hager, Pike13 Senior Onboarding Specialist and owner of Norco CrossFit, is competing for the 8th straight year. This year will be a bit different though — Dawn is competing while 8 months pregnant! To accommodate her pregnancy, Dawn is modifying her workouts using methods from BirthFit.
Jesse Goodnoe, Pike13 Software Engineer and the office’s self-proclaimed “Number One Badass,” is competing in the Open for the first time this year. Jesse is affiliated with Foundation CrossFit and is eager to make his mark on the Games.
Pike13 has been represented in the CrossFit Games before. In 2013, Director of Engineering Don Walker and his affiliate teammates of CrossFit Dallas Central took first place at the South Central Regionals and went on to place 10th in the Games.
CrossFit is a big part of Pike13 Culture. The company was founded by a group of CrossFit Box owners, and today nearly a third of Pike13 employees are Box affiliates. We'll be cheering for Jake, Dawn and Jesse over the next five weeks as they fight for their spots in the 2017 CrossFit Games. And we'll be tracking their progress here, too, so be sure to check our blog to see how they're doing!
