Keep members focused on their New Year’s goals

Motivation is high going into the New Year. But as weeks wear on, goals can get pushed aside. Make sure you keep members focused on their New Year’s goals.

People are excited to start the new year off fresh. Motivation runs high with people setting new goals to help them be the best theycan be. Phrases like “New year, new me!” will be, “This will be my best year yet! I’ll lose 25 pounds, I’ll run a marathon, I’ll perfect my Crow pose, I’ll learn Stairway to Heaven on the guitar.” But as the weeks wear on, these goals can get pushed to the side. Make sure this doesn’t happen to your clients!

How? With these three steps:

  1. Record their goals. Before starting any sort of program it’s important to have specific goals set and scheduled . At the beginning of the program, sit down with your client and ask them about their goals. Save this in their client profile so that you can both keep it top of mind. By writing goals down, your clients will solidify their target which helps them hold themselves accountable and more likely to meet the desired end result

  1. Plan a roadmap. Big goals don’t just happen overnight. Your clients will have to make gradual improvements and stick with it if they want to reach their resolution and not get discouraged. Identify ways to get them there. For example, a big weight loss target needs to be meticulously planned with eating and workout plans that scale and change throughout the duration of the program to work with the improvements

  1. Celebrate the little wins. Like I’ve mentioned, New Year’s resolutions don’t happen overnight. You don’t want your clients to lose sight of their goal or feel like they’re not making any progress. Help lessen the chances of this by celebrating the little wins. This can be a mini celebration for every 5 pound weight loss, an email acknowledgement of a new PR to your gym members, or hanging their first half-marathon bib in the gym.

When your clients all feel like they have someone helping them and holding them accountable, they’re more likely to reach their goals. And if you’re their #1 cheerleader, that client trusts you and will keep coming back to your business month after month.
