The importance of a good beginners class at your business

starting-line.jpgA successful class-based business offers a variety of classes that cater to a range of skill levels. Each class is important and should be carefully considered, because each level of class serves a particular purpose.

Higher-level classes are important for retention. These classes attract clients who already like what you offer and already have the foundation skills. But for growth, your best bet is your beginners class. Make your intro class an unbeatable experience, and you’ll turn those beginners into loyal long-term clients.

Here are just a few reasons why you should make sure your beginners classes rock:

Encourage client retention

A client who comes in to try your beginners class and likes it is likely to try another class. Especially if you give them a little encouragement. Offer a class discount to clients who complete the beginners course. Time it right (like when they’re feeling super proud of themselves for completing level 1) and you’ll likely see them back again.

Save money

It costs a lot more to retain a client than to find a new one. So when you bring in a group of beginners for a class, you want to do everything you can to keep them there. It’ll be a lot cheaper in the long-run.

Improve the client experience

One reason a client might leave a business is if they don’t feel like they’re making progress or being supported. And they won’t feel supported if they don’t feel like they know what they’re doing. A solid beginners class gives your new clients the foundation they need to take on the other classes offered at your business. You want your new clients to feel like pros and like they can conquer anything.

Increase referrals

There are a lot of people out there who might want to try something new, but for one reason or another are scared to. These people can be swayed by recommendations from their friends. If someone hears about how easy (and fun!) your beginners class is from someone who’s already done it and loved it, they might just find the courage to try it themselves.

Increase class sign-ups

A new client who has just conquered beginner techniques is likely itching to try something new. And since they started with your beginners class, they’ll likely look to you for their next step. Whether it’s an intermediate foundations class or a specialty class, you’ll see an increase in the amount of repeat customers. Especially if your staff members are talking up your class offerings during the beginners classes.

Minimize fear and maximize fun

Minimizing fear is really what a good beginners class is all about. Clients are there because they’re giving something new a try, and your goal should be to ignite their passion. Once they’re hooked, you’ll see them again and again.
