Millennials Preferences for Scheduling

Millennials preferences for scheduling are heavily leaning toward web and mobile technology. New research reveals that 43% of millennial respondents used web or mobile technology, rather than making a phone call, to make their appointments.

millennials preferences for schedulingThe millennial generation makes up more than a quarter of the global population. Business owners attempting to engage with millennials should be aware of millennials' preferred ways of scheduling classes and appointments. It should come as no surprise that millennials embrace technology. But when it comes to  mobile devices, one thing they don’t want to do is call you. Millennials use phones for all kinds of things, but they rarely use them to make actual phone calls. In a survey done by ISPA’s Consumer Snapshot Volume VII, 43% of millennial respondents reported using web or mobile technology other than making a phone call to make their appointments.

The ability to schedule an appointment via web or mobile technology provides an optimal client experience, increasing client satisfaction and ultimately retention.

So we know that millennials prefer other booking methods over the old-fashioned phone-call. How are millennials interacting with branded apps? Push notifications are a common feature of branded apps that will alert clients. These can be great for reminders, deal notifications, new class offerings and more.

Retale, a location-based mobile platform, announced the results of a commissioned study examining the actions and preferences of millennials using push notifications on location-based apps. The study polled 500 millennial adult men and women across the U.S.

84% of millennials say they act on push notifications they receive.

Retale's study also revealed that when it comes to types of information, millennials prefer info about a "coupon, discount or deal for immediate use" (61%); "customer rewards" (61%); "new product information and sale availability" (35%); "nearby store locations and store hours" (35%); "receipts after completing a purchase" (27%); and "in-store guidance on where things are" (16%).

Business owners offering services that are appointment-based should heavily consider a software solution for scheduling, if they haven't already done so. Millennials will comprise more than one of three adult Americans by 2020 and 75 percent of the workforce by 2025. Therefore, it is important to be accessible via their preferred method of scheduling.
